How to apply for the Italian Identity card/ Electronic Identity Card (CIE)

If you are an international student, before you apply for the Identity card, you MUST change your residence to Trento.
Instuctions to do so can be found HERE

  1. You first need to make an appointment by calling on of the below numbers:
    0461 884291 or 0461 884329. We advise getting some help from an Italian colleague to do this.
  2. During the phone call, they will check if you have become a resident and give you a date and time for the appointment.
  3. The operator will ask for oyur mobile number where you will get a confirmation SMS.
  4. You need to take the below material to the appointment:
    • Passport
    • Permesso di soggiorno
    • Health card
    • An italian ID size photo (you can get these from a machine or from a photography studio)
    • They will ask for your height. Make sure to calculate it in centimetres before you go.

  5. During the phone call, you will be told the address of the commune office where your appointment will be.
  6. The payment for the identity card is EUR 22.20.
  7. You will be asked for the documents, and your height. Once you pay and sign, you will be told the date when you can collect the ID card.

IMPORTANT!
You will recieve a 4 digit PIN code at the time of submitting the application;
You will recieve another 4 digit PIN code with your ID card;
Keep these PIN codes safe, as you will need them to register for the CIE service.
